the doctor dissertation electronic commerce in the procurement
process, which is of a strategically importance to enterprises'
business processes is described. The main goal of the research
was to build a Model of Electronic Commerce Critical Success
Factors in the procurement process.
The initial chapters of the dissertation are dedicated to the
problem of the electronic commerce critical success factors
ignorance in the procurement process. These factors can bring
much about the efficient electronic commerce introduction into
the process. There is a detailed description of the process
presented including the document flow among the members of the
process. Further on the development of the electronic commerce
in the business processes, the model of the internet based
procurement process and the linkage among the procurement
process members within an enterprise, as well as among them are
described. The research model is resulted from some statements
derived from the previous research. The electronic commerce
critical success factors in the procurement process are divided
into four groups: time, costs, simplicity and the number of
Based on the research model, a questionnaire was designed to
facilitate the research from various points of view: chief
procurement officer, chief logistic officer and chief
information officer. The research was carried out among 250
large enterprises with web page and the highest revenues in
Slovenia. Further statistical analyze was made on the basis of
the questionnaires returned by the 133 respondents. The research
provided us with the data on the respondents and the enterprises
and their experiences in electronic commerce.
The main focus of the research was on gathering information on
electronic commerce critical success factors in procurement
process that have impact on the benefit from four points of
view: time, costs, simplicity and the number of transactions.
The statistical data processing enabled us to create a model of
electronic commerce critical success factors in the procurement
process. This model is dealt with in detail from the point of
view of the importance of the individual factor, from the point
of view of the linkage among the main factors, differences
between the degree of the agreement of the respondents in
connection with the factors with regard to their work field and
the impact of the electronic commerce on the number of suppliers
and the number of supply chain members. The detailed
presentation of the model of the electronic commerce factors is
followed by the comparison of the research findings with the
findings of some other researches.
In a practical sense, it is very important to know findings in
connection with electronic commerce that are important for its
development and implementation. Researchers may give importance
only to those factors that are found as really important ones.
Second practical contribution is that planning, implementation
and expanding of e-Commerce in procurement process give some
suggestions on how to become more efficient and effective.
Knowing e-Commerce factors contribute to finding new business
opportunities and also to the enterprise competitiveness.
